Changes I made i made from my rough cut magazine advert and how i did it

Here is a screen shot of me using InDesign on a iMac. I took my rough cut and followed what my cristcms were such as the font is hardtop read therefore I put a boarder around it. Therefore it would be more clearer to the audience.

Below is the icon of the programme I used InDesign.

I then used photo shop to move the picture of the artist to the bottem hand corner. I then helped smooth around the boaders with a tool on photoshop. Secondlyy I took a picture off google images o a barcode I then cropped it then applied it in photoshop. Put a new layer on my new photo and put the barcode on the bottom left of my magazine advert cover.

I Then used phtoshop of my phots image to brighten up my image and change the contrast of it

Here is my rough cut I will have to change this as it doesn't fit in with the codes and conventions of a typical magazine advert, as it looks like a color therefore i will need to make changes to my final advert to make sure it fits in with the codes and conventions of a typical magazine advert.

Digipak final design

I used an imac as its the most technologically advanced computer that I could get my hands on as well as the best programme to run Photoshop on due to the range of options you can do to create a photo.

This is my final cut for my digipak as one can see below is the front cover of my album.

I then took a picture on my phone in a club then filtered it on Photoshop where I distorted it, this is because I needed it to look crazy in club or make it look that a drug is taking affect. as it links in with my songs lyrics "I can't stop".

Below are the different stages of designing my final cut and comparing them to my final cut.

Above is my first rough cut however it didn't go to plan as in my sunglasses there was the reflect of the computer I originally took my picture from therefore I used Photoshop to cover my glasses in black so you couldn't see the computer monitor. However the only problem is that it looks unnatural as the rest of the sun glases isn't that colour. therefore the image below shows the difference in sun glases on the lens as I took the same shade of grey that is on the actual sunglasses and applied it to the lens.

I then screenshotted the image then cut it out placed it in iMovie then added a fileter to it where it was black and white.

I also used photoshop to use the club image to put the cartoon  filter on it so it looks like its a more crazy scene, as well as attract the audience. It also links to my music video with that affect with the lighting. Therefore it is keeping a croguent link between my digipaks as well as my music video creating again a robust brand.

I then added on Photoshop two dots of white on my sunglasses as it creates a reflection such as a disco ball in a club.

Here is the back of my cd cover with some of the songs in my album, I also changed the colour of my font added a boarder to it so it is more visable to the reader. Secondly the song in my music video is white and not yellow like all the other tracks as it stands out as it is supposed to be the top attraction for song.

Here is a template I acquired from google images which  then put the image into Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers and books. That's why it is great to help design the print on my disk as I am able to black out the background then create a font, then bend it so it then looks professional.

For the disk skin cover I decided to make it a different contrast compared to the rest of my digipak as well as my magazine advert. This is because one for a better phrase I wanted to switch things up. I wanted to make it clear and simple the title of the artist I also wanted to make it similar to vinyl designs with the all black background.

Here is the CD skin of a house music artist Tchami, note its is very  similar to my CD print. as it has a dark  background with the text with a white colour as well as the artists name presented.

Feedback for magazine rough cut and subsequent changes

I carried out an open questionnaire asking people a single question to write down the positive and negatives aspects of my magazine rough cut. I used 7 participants 6 of them were my peers the other one was my teacher. Here is the comments both negative and positive ones that were made.
Positive comments
  • The use of colour fits with the house music genre
  • The busy colours work well with the club scene
  • The white colour fits in well over the colourful background of the club scene
  • The use of a rating for performance by VICE MAGAZINE a online magazine that we studied at as level
  • The link between the album cover and advert is effective because of its consistency and creates a brand
Negative comments
  • The mid section of the magazine with the use of the picture doesn't fit well as it looks out of place and not smooth
  • The font looks hard too see therefore I have put a black boarder around it so it is easier to see
  • There is no barcode which need to be put in
As one can see I took on these constructive criticism points and acted upon them to make my magazine better quality.

In the image of a screenshot above is the process of me improving my rough cut but putting a border on it whch helps it stand out.

However as you can see above it was not suitable magazine advert as it is  a front cover oof a magazine, therefore I changed it were you can see just the artist face I have taken away a magazine cover layout, I also brought out in "CARTOON" FONT in red the name of the artist saying out now in red italic as I felt that this would stand out and the colour red represent danger, which links to the lyrics of my song "I can't stop". As when  one think of those lyrics usually one thinks of danger. Furthermore I have put an image of iTunes in the corner as this relates to ales as most selling of albums is done online now. Furthermore most of my target audience age is between 18-24 year olds who usually use the internet more than any other average age group so iTunes is very important advertising as it will boost sales.

Magazine Rough Cut

Here is a picture of my magazine advert. I like that I have kept to Goodwin's first theory of music video and applied it to my magazine advert of my album. Music genre which is that there should be a lot of colours and lights which I have in the background. secondly The title of my magazine is "CLUBSCENE MAGAZINE". Which relates to my target audience as it is were a large proportion of house music is played. Therefore it is the type of magazine were people would appeal to my song if they were reading a magazine about house music. As it is of the same music genre, house. It does follow to a certain extent of a typical magazine advert as it does have a picture of the main protagonist, secondly it does have a picture that is very similar to the album. However I  have chose to put my magazine advert of my album on the front cover as it is more effective as it  is seen as more people and not just on some random page in a magazine. Secondly I am able to show that I understand the genre of music as I have put the name of a made up magazine but it relates to my songs genre. However what I would look to change is maybe put the picture of my artist on a different display of wear it is on my magazine advert. However I have realised that Imy magazine didn't fit in with the codes and conventions of a typical magazine advert as it looks more like a cover. Therefore for my final cut I will need to change my whole lay out and create a totally new advert.

Magazine final cut

I decided the image below as my final magazine advert I have kept continuity with my digipak, inserts and my music video as I have included sunglasses on. This is similar to David Guetta album covers with eh use of sunglasses.  I also brought out in "CARTOON" FONT in red the name of the artist saying out now in red italic as I felt that this would stand out and the colour red represent danger, which links to the lyrics of my song "I can't stop".

Bellow you can see my rough cut for my magazine as you can see it has the picture of the main protagonist in the centre however ii later rejected this idea as it looked out  of place and by later moving it to the bottem tight corner it smothed it out. Secondly I also added a barcode as my rough cut didn't have it. It is the obvious from looking at my rough cut and my final cut of my magazine advert cover that I have taken on board the negative comments from my questionnaire to the participant 7 who were my peers and one that was a teacher.

Here is a screenshot of me using  InDesign. This helped me create a font, that stands out and is bright which fits in the codes and conventions of house music of bright colours therefore creates a brand identity.

Here is a screenshot of a tool on Photoshop were I was able to smooth the edges of the picture of the artist to make it look more professional and effective as a pice as a magazine advert.

Here is the icons InDesining and Photoshop that I used to help create  my magazine cover advert

Here is a image or Rihanna's new album in a magazine advert. what's similar to in is both have the artists face on them. However Rihanna's has a couple of her new songs this is something that I did consider however I didn't want to overcomplicate my advert I wanted to keep it simple.

Digipak explain why you chose your design

I knew that I wanted the main protagonist to be on the cover as I felt this is important to help build a strong robust brand identity. I wanted glasses on my main protagonist as other house artists such as Calvin Harris has them. Therefore I am relating to other artist of the same genre meaning that I'll attract a larger pool of possible fans. I also wanted to have a club background as it become relatable to fans of house music and those who are young adults. Furthermore in the video there is many scenes of clubs therefore it was also important to have a congruency between my digipak and my music video.

Here is a screen shot me using Photoshop on my album cover.

I rejected this shots as the glasses didn't fit in well as I coloured out the reflection of the computer monitor when I took a picture however it wasn't good move to put it all black. secondly the artist looks to pale nor looks good in colour.

Here I changed this shot were I made the artist in black and white so he stood out in front of a colourful background. Secondly I fixed the sunglasses lens by making them the same colour of dark grey that the frames are. I also put  two white dots at the top left hand of the lens to act like there was a reflection of a strobe light.

I then added text to my album cover with the name of my artist as well as the title of the song that I am doing for my music video. the reason that I have put it on my album cover as it is supposed to act to encourage individuals to look it up and watch the music video. Secondly I have a quote off VICE magazine which ahs a large online following. Which fits in for my genre of music which is followed by a large proportion of young people who usually get there information or news from online.

The disk skin cover, I decided to make it a different contrast compared to the rest of my digipak as well as my magazine advert. This is because one for a better phrase I wanted to switch things up. I wanted to make it clear and simple the title of the artist I also wanted to make it similar to vinyl designs with the all black background.

For the back of my cd cover with some of the songs in my album, I also changed the colour of my font added a boarder to it so it is more visable to the reader. Secondly the song in my music video is white and not yellow like all the other tracks as it stands out as it is supposed to be the top attraction for song. This helps create a brand identity as again I have a picture of a club in the background with a strong contrast which looks strange therefore interests individuals. Additionally the club scene relates to my magazine album avert, album cover and my music video keeping congruency thus creating a strong brand identity.

I wanted to create the main protagonists face in the shot to help build up a brand and create an identity. Secondly the audience would be more likely in most cases to buy the album if there was a face that they could relate to. I wanted the background to be a club scene as it appeals to my target audience who party an go out a lot. The image of my artist should be that he relates to the target audience as he also enjoys going to venues that they like to go to. Therefore they would be more inclined to buy the album as they find the artist relatable and appealing. I also chose to have sunglasses as it relates to her house artist such as Calvin Harris that wear sunglasses a lot in some of his music videos.
